Award-Winning Composer Quincy C. Hilliard Partners with Jupiter Band Instruments
Mount Juliet, TN, February 11th 2025…Renowned composer, educator, and conductor Quincy C. Hilliard has joined the esteemed roster of KHS America Academic Alliance affiliated educators, representing Jupiter Band Instruments. With a distinguished career spanning composition and education, Hilliard brings an unparalleled depth of expertise to Jupiter’s mission of supporting music education.
A highly regarded composer, Hilliard’s works for wind band are published by top industry publishers and performed worldwide. His extensive accolades include the 2023 Eminent Faculty, Distinguished Professor Award from the University of Louisiana and the prestigious Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters Award in the Classical Music Division. In 2021, he was commissioned by Trinity College Press to compose eight pieces for their Woodwind Examination Syllabus, and he recently co-authored Teaching Instrumental Music Across Settings: Contemporary Perspectives and Pedagogies, published by Oxford University Press. His newest publication, Counts of Silence, a rhythm training book for middle and high school students, was released through Wingert-Jones Music Publishers.
“My area of concentration is working with middle and high school bands in developing strong musicianship skills—tone, intonation, balance, and technique—in students,” says Hilliard. “In addition, I work with directors in developing a strong band program. I can also serve as a composer in the classroom where bands are playing my compositions.”
Beyond his work as a composer and educator, Hilliard is frequently invited to conduct, demonstrate techniques, and adjudicate festivals across the globe. His compositions have been commissioned for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and the documentary film The Texas Rangers. The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) has consistently recognized him with awards for the widespread performance of his compositions.
“Quincy’s impact on music education and composition is undeniable,” says John Richardson, Artist & Educator Relations Manager for KHS America, the U.S. home of Jupiter Band Instruments. “His ability to elevate student musicianship and support band directors aligns perfectly with our commitment to music education. We are honored to welcome him to the KHS family.”
